The direction

A purpose-built storefront.
A familiar way to run the business.

The current WordPress / WooCommerce customer storefront will be replaced. Retail shoppers and wholesale buyers will each have a tailored online experience, while the team manages products, online orders, payment, and shipping in Shopify. Square continues to operate the café POS independently.

Why this approach. Shopify handles commerce administration and fulfillment, so the project focuses custom development where it adds the most value: the Pour City brand experience. It avoids introducing a separate CMS, inventory synchronization service, or custom shipping dashboard.

01 / Solution architecture

Two domains, one application, one store.

Both domains resolve to one Vercel-hosted SvelteKit deployment. Domain-aware routing provides separate retail and wholesale experiences, while shared storefront components and Shopify integration are maintained once.

Security and checkout. Wholesale login and pricing are enforced using Shopify’s authenticated B2B context — not simply by placing wholesale pages on a subdomain. Shopify-hosted checkout handles web payments. The Shopify admin interface itself is not custom-developed or redesigned.

02 / Included scope

Everything required to launch retail and wholesale.

The implementation is intentionally focused, using the existing approved design direction and Shopify’s native capabilities rather than developing a custom commerce backend.

  1. 01

    Experience

    SvelteKit storefronts

One application with distinct, responsive retail and wholesale experiences.

    • Two homepages, listing and product detail pages
    • Shared cart and Shopify-hosted checkout handoff
    • Wholesale login and account entry
    • Up to six informational pages total
    • Two-domain routing and Vercel deployment
  2. 02

    Commerce

    Shopify administration + B2B

One Shopify store configured for online retail and wholesale operations.

    • Up to 25 products with variants, weights, and images
    • Collections and wholesale bulk-bean products
    • One shared wholesale catalog and approved company accounts
    • Up to three eligibility-restricted grandfathered discount codes
    • Checkout, taxes, and standard order management
  3. 03

    Merchandising

    Client-editable homepage content

The team controls featured products and campaign banners from Shopify.

    • One hero / promotion banner per homepage
    • Image, headline, supporting copy, CTA link, and active status
    • Up to two featured collection / product modules per homepage
    • Shopify Collections + Metaobjects, exposed to SvelteKit by API
  4. 04

    Fulfillment

    Shipping and labels

Native Shopify shipping workflows. No separate fulfillment software for the agreed shipping model.

    • One fulfillment location and supported shipping zones
    • Retail versus bulk coffee shipping profiles and weights
    • Native shipping rates, label printing, and tracking
    • Checkout tests for standard and heavier orders
  5. 05

    Transition

    Migration, launch, and handover

Transfer agreed content and products from WooCommerce, configure key redirects, complete representative retail and wholesale checkout tests, verify mobile usability and domains, and provide a short Shopify administration guide plus one remote training session.

03 / Day-to-day ownership

What the team can edit without calling a developer.

Shopify is the sole content and commerce administration platform for this scope. No Strapi or separate CMS is included.

In Shopify

Editable by the team

Content and operations the team can update independently.

  • Product descriptions, images, prices, and collections
  • Featured products and collection ordering
  • Homepage banners, headlines, CTAs, and promotional links
  • Wholesale accounts, the standard wholesale catalog, and discounts
  • Online orders, fulfillment, shipping labels, and tracking
  • Selected informational content through Shopify Pages

In code

Managed in SvelteKit

Changes to the storefront’s underlying design and structure.

  • Page layouts, new components, and visual treatments
  • Navigation structure and custom interactive experiences
  • Adding entirely new homepage module types
  • Significant routing or commerce integration changes
  • Deployments through the development workflow

About Shopify admin. Shopify’s back-office interface is configurable for settings, records, Metaobjects, and catalog data, but its native interface is not being redesigned as part of this project. Shopify’s theme editor will not edit SvelteKit page layouts.

04 / Shipping and fulfillment

Shipping managed entirely in Shopify.

The customer selects a shipping service at Shopify checkout. Staff work from Shopify’s standard orders and fulfillment interface to purchase labels, print them, and share tracking updates.

01

Set shipping rules

Configure origin, destinations, product weights, and retail versus wholesale shipping profiles.

02

Calculate checkout rates

Apply agreed Shopify-native flat, weight-based, or supported carrier rates.

03

Print labels

Buy and print supported shipping labels directly from Shopify’s order admin.

04

Track fulfillment

Mark orders fulfilled, associate tracking numbers, and send Shopify notifications.

Shipping boundaries. Carrier eligibility and specific services depend on merchant location and Shopify plan. Client-owned carrier-account rate integrations, custom freight quotations, complex multi-warehouse rules, and postage are outside this fixed fee.

05 / Investment

A focused, fixed-price rebuild.

The scope reuses the established design direction and consolidates operations around Shopify, keeping the project within a small-business investment range.

SvelteKit retail + wholesale storefronts$2,600
Shopify commerce, B2B, and discount codes$1,500
Homepage merchandising controls$800
Shipping, checkout, and label setup$850
Migration, QA, launch, and training$1,000
Total one-time project investment$6,750

Ongoing platform and support costs are listed in expected monthly fees. Postage and other third-party services remain separate.

06 / Expected monthly fees

What runs after launch.

The one-time build is separate from the recurring stack. Figures below use current published list pricing and may change with plan choice, billing cycle, and sales volume.

Splantern maintenance and support$200 / mo
Shopify Basic subscription$39 / mo
Thrive Inventory Starter (optional)$59 / mo
Baseline monthly (with Thrive)~$298 / mo

How billing works. Splantern maintenance ($200/mo) is paid to Splantern through a Stripe subscription. Shopify and Thrive fees are paid directly to those companies on their own accounts—not through Splantern.

Included in $200

Splantern maintenance

Ongoing care for the custom storefront after launch, billed to Splantern via Stripe. See maintenance terms.

  • Up to 2 hours of content updates each month
  • Bug fixes at no additional charge
  • Security patches and incident response for the agreed stack
  • Hosting and uptime monitoring for the SvelteKit app

Billed by others

Shopify and Thrive

Paid directly to Shopify and Thrive on their platforms. Not included in the Splantern Stripe subscription.

  • Shopify Basic: $39/mo billed monthly, or $29/mo when paid annually
  • Shopify Payments online cards: about 2.9% + 30¢ per order on Basic
  • Thrive Inventory Starter: $59/mo if Square ↔ Shopify stock sync is needed
  • Higher Thrive tiers if you need more locations or transaction volume

Optional by design. The fixed-price build does not require Thrive. Square can stay the café POS on its own. Add Thrive only if you want inventory kept in sync across Square and Shopify. Domain renewals, postage, and payment processing stay usage-based.

Maintenance terms. The $200/mo fee includes up to 2 hours of content updates per calendar month, bug fixes at no extra charge, and security patches and incident response for the launched storefront. Unused content hours do not roll over. Work beyond the monthly allotment, new features, redesigns, and third-party platform fees are billed separately or quoted as additional scope.

07 / Assumptions

Clear scope, fewer surprises.

Assumptions

  • Shopify Basic is the intended plan, subject to verifying required B2B and API permissions in the actual store.
  • Existing approved designs and brand assets are reused.
  • Client supplies product content, images, prices, packing weights, shipping policies, and wholesale account eligibility.
  • Wholesale uses one common pricing structure, with discounts for a few grandfathered accounts.
  • The shipping setup uses one fulfillment origin and supported native Shopify services.

Outside this scope

  • Custom Shopify administration, a separate CMS, or a drag-and-drop page builder.
  • Shopify-to-Square synchronization and ingredient-level coffee-bean inventory tracking.
  • Individually negotiated wholesale price lists or advanced custom pricing logic.
  • Freight quoting, bespoke carrier integrations, or multiple fulfillment locations.
  • Subscriptions, ERP, loyalty systems, major redesigns, new product photography, and significant catalog expansion.

Launch acceptance. Successful retail and authorized wholesale test purchases, correct catalog and discount pricing, appropriate shipping checkout rates and test label generation, Shopify-managed homepage updates, functional domain routing and essential redirects, and responsive display on common devices.
